Croatian Botanical society is pleased to invite you to participate in and contribute to the 8th Central European Diatom Meeting (8th CEDM). 8th CEDM will be held on 10 – 13 April at University of Zagreb, Croatia.

Zagreb is the capital of the Republic of Croatia. It is one of the oldest European cities while simultaneously being one of Europe’s youngest metropolises. Zagreb archdiocese was founded in 1094 and it was proclaimed a free royal city in 1242, both attesting to its long history. Zagreb is the administrative, economic, diplomatic and cultural capital of the country, with a population of almost one million. Its lively urban energy is reflected in all aspects of its culture: edgy art, excellent cuisine, fascinating architecture, bustling cafés and array of festivals.

It is also a university center with forty higher education schools and over 40,000 students, it is a city that is proud of its long history of education. The University of Zagreb (1669) is the oldest and biggest university in South-Eastern Europe. Since its foundation, the University has been continually growing and developing and now consists of 29 faculties, three art academies and the Centre for Croatian Studies. It offers a wide range of academic degree courses leading to Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in the following fields: Arts, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, Engineering, Humanities, Natural and Social Sciences. It is also a strongly research-oriented institution, contributing with over 50 percent to the total research output of the country.
